Chelsea are willing to pay €80m to Barcelona for his transfer and are confident of agreeing on a deal with the club too. However, there’s a catch – Barcelona still owes De Jong €20m in wages they had agreed to defer prior to this summer. Moreover, he’s the highest-paid player at the club, earning over €14m a year before bonuses, which was his salary before he took a pay cut last season. Chelsea are reportedly agreeing to pay De Jong his outstanding wages, relieving Barcelona of their problem.

Brighton and Chelsea will now sign the final documents and the deal will be announced before the week gets over. Chelsea will pay a £55m fixed fee plus £7m add-ons for the left wing-back. The total fee could therefore reach £62m. Moreover, Levi Colwill will not be joining Brighton on a permanent deal – it will be a loan move until June 2023. The deal does not have an option to buy.
