Both Alex Scott and Kelly Somers are understood to have dropped out of hosting Football Focus.

The programme typically airs at noon – but Sky News understands it has been pulled from air in the wake of the scandal.

BBC's Football Focus team pull out of show in support of Gary Lineker

The BBC’s flagship Football Focus show has been taken off-air after host Alex Scott and the programme’s pundits said they would not take part in support of Gary Lineker.

The corporation announced on Friday that Lineker would be «stepping back» as host of Match of the Day after he tweeted criticism of the government’s asylum policy, in contravention of the BBC’s impartiality rules.

Gary Lineker: 'Football is on a precipice financially' – BBC News

Former England captain and Match of the Day presenter Gary Lineker has said that football is on a «precipice» financially and has expressed concern over the financial structure within the game.

Despite the financial struggles during the pandemic, Premier League clubs spent a total of £1.1bn in the summer transfer window, with a number of big-money moves involving the wealthiest sides.

Lineker, who played for Leicester, Everton, Barcelona and Spurs between 1979 and 1992, said that football had to «find a way» of filtering money down to lower league clubs.
