Football Associations of Sweden, Czech Republic & Poland refuse World Cup play-offs in Russia

The Football Associations of Sweden, Poland and the Czech Republic have released a joint statement saying they do not want to play next month’s World Cup play-offs in Russia. The countries involved with play-off matches in March, to qualify for the World Cup , say that the matches should not go ahead due to political tensions.

Chelsea Football Club in 'limbo' after owner Abramovich sanctioned



Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich is the latest Russian oligarch to be sanctioned, stopping him from profiting from the football club until May.

The team will continue to operate under a special licence from the Government, the first of its kind.

Chelsea cannot sell any new tickets to supporters, but all tickets sold before 10 March will be honoured.

There were emotional scenes before the start of the Everton Manchester City match as two Ukrainian players hugged in the middle of the pitch.

Manchester City’s Oleksandr Zinchenko and Everton’s Vitaliy Mykolenko met each other in the midfield and embraced as players and fans waved Ukrainian flags in a show of unity with the players.

Russia's football clubs and international sides suspended by FIFA and UEFA



Russia’s football clubs and international sides have been suspended until further notice by FIFA and UEFA.

The decision by the world and European governing bodies means the Russian national team will be unable to qualify for the World Cup in Qatar in November.

The suspension also covers all of Russia’s national teams.
